Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
Ephesians 1:3-4
And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:22-23
It’s so easy to think of church as the place you go to get filled up for a week of personal walking with Jesus. And I hope that’s true, but I don’t know where that is in the Bible. The fact is that you are the church.
And what that means is that your mission statement is not a building code, but something that you do. Your vision statement is not something you go there to support, but something that you do. But it also means that the church building isn’t the bride of Christ, but you are. You are the bride that Jesus overcame the world to make it crystal clear that you are loved in a wild, reckless and unshakeable way.
And I’ve started to wonder if when Paul says we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, he’s in part just highlighting the fact that within the Church, within the body of Christ, among the people with who you gather is a deep well of blessing, care, and connection. That’s the reality HERE, now.
So as you find your place and purpose in the Church, may you be guided by the love of Jesus Christ, the love that pursues you, blesses you, cares for you, the love that conquers all things.
May you go in peace.
